West Bengal Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (WBMDFC)
The West Bengal Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (A Statutory Corporation of Govt. of West Bengal) was established in 1996. It is a State Channelizing Agency (SCA) for the National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC) and National Backward Class Finance & Development Corporation (NBCFDC). With continuous financial support from NMDFC and the State Government, WBMDFC has been able to increase its beneficiary coverage with improved services, fulfilling the hope and aspirations of the minorities in West Bengal.
Activities:
Schemes for Loan and Training
Term Loan: Soft loan upto Rs 1 lakh is provided for self-employment for a wide range of financially viable income generating activities to the economically backward minorities having family income of not more than Rs. 40,000/- in rural areas and not more than Rs. 55,000/- in urban areas. Loan for project cost above Rs. 1 lakh upto Rs. 5 lakhs is given subject to approval of NMDFC. Loan upto Rs.5 lakh is also available through NBCFDC.
WBMDFC selects the beneficiaries who have adequate technical know-how and /or the aptitude to earn the required abilities.
FY 2011-12: Number of beneficiaries: 4571, Amount Disbursed Rs. 2714.07 Lakh
Micro Finance and Micro Credit Schemes: The micro-credit programme of WBMDFC is run through NGOs and directly through SHGs. The small credit needs of the economically backward sections of the minority communities, especially the women are addressed through this initiative.
FY 2011-12: Number of beneficiaries: 62200, Amount Disbursed Rs. 8641.05 Lakh
Minority Women Empowerment Programme: This programme is launched by MA&ME deptt. for providing soft loan to SHGs for undertaking any income generation activity. Subsidy @50% of loan amount subject to a maximum of Rs.15000/- is given to each beneficiary. Applications on advertisement received at BDO/ Municipality office. Rate of Interest 3% p.a.
FY 2011-12: Number of beneficiaries: 93, Amount Disbursed Rs. 12.00 Lakh
Vocational Training: WBMDFC has been organising low cost vocational training course in association with government polytechnics and private recognized vocational training institutes. The Corporation has undertaken to provide training programme in the traditional and technical occupation and entrepreneurship to develop professional skill leading to self-employment with special emphasis to women.
FY 2011-12: Number of trainees:1090 , Amount Involved: Rs. 82.70 Lakh
Coaching, Career guidance Counseling: Coaching to the student willing to sit for competitive examination for jobs or admission in technical and professional courses is imparted through enlisted Coaching Institutes. Coaching fee upto Rs.25,000/- is paid per Batch per Subject to the institute where each batch containing from 25 to 30 students.
FY 2011-12: Number of trainees: 10996, Amount Involved: Rs. 62.43 Lakh
Education Loan: WBMDFC provides education loan subject to maximum of Rs. 2.50 lakhs for entire course of 5 years for students belonging to economically weaker families for pursuing studies in professional course like engineering, Medical, Management, Nursing etc. This loan carries interest @3% annually but the loan will be made interest free on timely repayment.
FY 2011-12: Number of beneficiaries: 3015, Amount disbursed Rs. 909.99 Lakh
Schemes of Scholarship and Stipends
Merit-cum-Means Scholarship: Scholarship upto Rs. 30,000/- (Rs.20,000/- for Course fee & Rs.10,000/- as maintenance allowance for Hosteller and Rs.5,000/-for Day Scholar) per year per student is given for pursuing professional / technical courses at graduate and post graduate level. Online application in July / August every year. Annual Family Income upto Rs.2.5 Lakh.
FY 2011-12: Number of Students: 9546, Amount disbursed Rs. 2484.87
Post Matric Scholarship: Scholarship is given to students for pursuing studies from class XI to PhD. Application time July / August every year at DM office (Minority Cell).

30% of scholarship is earmarked for girl students. In case, sufficient number of eligible girl students are not available, then the balance earmarked scholarships may be awarded to eligible boy students.

Pre-Matric Scholarship: Scholarship is given to students for pursuing studies from class I to X ranging from Rs. 1000/- to Rs. 10,700/- per year. Application time July / August every year at BDO/ Municipality office. Family Income upto Rs.1 Lakh.

State Govt. Stipend for Meritorious Minority Students:- To meritorious students pursuing post matric studies. Yearly stipend @ Rs. 6,000/-, Rs. 9, 000/- and Rs. 14,400/- for HS,
Graduation and Post Graduation Levels respectively. Students of Madrasa systems are also
eligible.
